Thrust ball bearings are separable bearings consisting of a shaft washer (mating with the shaft), housing washer (mating with the housing bore), a set of steel balls, and a cage, allowing convenient separate installation and removal.
Classified as single-direction thrust ball bearings, double-direction thrust ball bearings, and thrust angular contact ball bearings. Bearings with spherical housing washer mounting surfaces have self-aligning capability to reduce installation error effects. Shaft washer, housing washer, and rolling elements are separable for individual assembly.
Primarily bears axial loads; cannot bear radial loads. Capable of transmitting large axial loads with relatively low limiting speed. Single-direction thrust ball bearings bear unidirectional axial loads; double-direction types bear bidirectional axial loads.
Suitable for crane hooks, vertical water pumps, vertical centrifuges, jacks, low-speed reducers, automotive steering mechanisms, machine tool spindles, and other components bearing pure axial forces or low-speed rotation.
